A. Papatya Bucak

Rabbi in a Tea Cup

Often I reread the books I loved as a child, which worries my parents because I have a cousin who often rereads the books she loved as a child, and she has spent time in a mental institution. She has a friend who, at breakfast, talks to a rabbi in his tea cup. I once had a teacher who kept his grandfather's finger in a jar, but I would not consider him a friend.

A. Papatya Bucak is an assistant professor in the MFA program at Minnesota State University, Mankato. Next year, she will be a visiting professor at Oberlin College. Recent stories and poems have appeared in Ohio Review, Salt Hill and Beloit Fiction Journal.
